The 26th Premier League matchweek is going to be different than the rest of them. For the 1st time in history, the Premier League is going to have a small winter break. That’s why this round is divided over two weekends. There will be just 4 fixtures this weekend while the rest of the teams enjoy the break. Next weekend, the rest of them will play to finish off the round. For that reason, we are going to cover all 4 of the fixtures that are played this week.
The round will open with a fixture between the Toffees and Crystal Palace while later on Saturday we get to watch Brighton vs Watford. On Sunday, the Blades are hosting the Cherries and later Manchester City will try to return to winning ways in a fixture against the Hammers. More about all of this below, in our weekly Premier League predictions for the upcoming matchweek.
Everton vs Crystal Palace >> click here for live odds
The Toffees have been playing much better since the new coach took over. They were relegation bound before Ancelotti took over and now they are just 8 points off the 4th position. Tottenham who are in 5th are just 4 points above them. As a matter of fact, the only loss they suffered in the EPL since the new coach came along was against Liverpool. In the new matchweek, Everton are playing against Palace who are in a real bad form of results lately. They don’t have a win in the last 6 Premier League matches and Everton could take advantage of that.
Palace are in a serious run of bad results, after they lost to the Blades at home in the previous round. At the moment they are just 6 points above the relegation zone which is not something to be trifled with. To make things worse, now they have to face a team that they haven’t beaten since 2014. On top of that, they are playing away from home which just makes things harder. Another loss will really put Palace on the ropes; however, they have a lot of injuries and the way they are performing suggests that Everton will be walking away with all 3 points.
Quality wise, these sides should be on equal ground. However, current form and performance suggest that Everton are the much better side. The visitors need to improve a lot if they are to get a positive result on Saturday. For that reason, we are backing a Home Side Victory.
Brighton vs Watford >> click here for live odds
The hosts are in a run of bad results since they defeated the Cherries back in December. It has been 5 rounds without a win for Brighton and they are now dangerously approaching the relegation zone. 2 points separate them from the zone and a bad result against Watford on Saturday could see them drop to the zone. Quality wise they are on the same level as Watford and there is no better chance for them to get 3 points than in a home match against an equal side. However, their recent performances are not making their fans hopeful.
The Hornets had a run of great results during the previous weeks. At one point in the season, they were rock bottom with 9 points below the team that was above them. As a matter of fact they were on their way out of the relegation zone however, the bad results in the last 2 rounds put them right back in there. In the previous matchweek, they led twice against Everton and even had a player advantage but still lost to the Toffees. They need to return to winning ways if they are to escape relegation this year. Watford have had problems when facing Brighton in recent years and now they have a chance to repair their image.
Even though Brighton are doing a bit better, both sides are going to be fighting a relegation battle. A loss could see Brighton drop to the relegation zone while Watford could go above it. The teams are pretty much equal in all every way which is why we are backing a Both Teams to Score outcome.
Sheffield United vs Bournemouth >> click here for live odds
The Blades continue to impress everyone with the performances week in and week out. They defeated Palace in the last round and got themselves back in the run for the 5th spot on the table. As a matter of fact, Sheffield have only been dropping points against the best teams in the league. Their opponents on Sunday are bound for the relegation zone and the Blades should take advantage of that. The 1st time they played Bournemouth at the start of the season, the game ended with a 1:1 draw. This time, Sheffield have the home turf advantage and they should take all 3 points.
The Cherries have been under-performing for most parts of the season. They should be doing much better with the squad quality they currently possess. Bournemouth fell to the relegation zone a couple of weeks ago but they connected 2 wins a row which saw them climb right out. They defeated Aston Villa and Brighton but facing Sheffield will be much harder. Some of the best teams in the league dropped points when they faced the Blades at home so Bournemouth will have to prepare extra hard.
The Blades are playing very good football throughout the whole season. Bournemouth, on the other hand, improved their performances recently but it’s hard to believe that they can defeat Sheffield right now. That’s why we are backing a Home Side Victory.
Manchester City vs West Ham United >> click here for live odds
The holding champions are having a season to forget as they dropped more points in the previous matchweek. They are now trailing Liverpool by 22 points and it’s safe to say that the Reds are going to be the new Premier League champions. Manchester City, on the other hand, need to play out their games and finish at least 2nd on the table. The Hammers haven’t been a problem for them since forever. The last time they lost to them was back in 2015. City need to bounce back from the Tottenham game and nothing less than 3 points will do for their fans on Sunday.
The visitors haven’t had a season this bad in a very long time. They are currently in the relegation zone and are showing no signs of improvement. When the new coach took over, they got a couple of good results but then the team returned to their usual ways. The Hammers don’t have a win in the last 5 rounds which is very problematic for a team that’s supposed to finish in the top part of the table. To make things worse, now they have to face City who are a team that they haven’t been able to beat in a long time. Another loss will put them deeper into the relegation zone so West Ham need to find a way to improve really fast.
City are wounded at the moment and they will want to make their fans happy by winning on Sunday. However, their defensive performances haven’t been very good so we are expecting West Ham to at least score a goal against them. For that reason, we are backing a Home Side Victory & Over 3.5 Goals outcome.
