Boxing Day brought some very interesting results in the Premier League. The most unexpected one was how Liverpool trashed Leicester even though they played at their turf. However, Chelsea losing to Southampton was also completely unexpected. In other news, Arsenal failed to win yet another game although they played much better. Tottenham got a hard fought win against Brighton while United surprised everyone with their performance. It’s not every day that they score 4 goals against someone. However, there is no time for resting because another EPL round is upon us. Starting Saturday, we got to watch more exciting fixtures. More about all of this below, in our weekly Premier League predictions for the upcoming matchweek.

Arteta as the new coach of the Gooners will have his first tough test in the 2nd game with him in charge. A win in a London derby will certainly bring Arsenal fans back to the stands. They are obviously a broken team at the moment, with moral at the lowest. However, Arteta has been rumored to be a very strict coach who will try and make the best out of this Arsenal squad. Chelsea are not at their best right now so maybe the Gooners can take advantage of that. Arsenal can’t be dropping more points if they hope to finish the season in the top part of the table.
The London blues were on a bad run of two losses against Everton and Bournemouth but they bounced back with a win against Tottenham. Boxing Day sees them play against Southampton in a match they have to win because on Sunday, they have to play against Arsenal. The Spurs are waiting for Chelsea to drop points so they can take their 4th spot for them. However, Lampard’s side is not going to give it up that quickly. They have managed to stay there with a very limited squad because of the transfer ban. Come January it will be lifted, and Lampard will be able to strengthen his team.
Arsenal are in a very bad position and they are desperate for points. Chelsea, on the other hand are playing good football even though they are struggling with some injuries. However, it’s not possible to pick a winner for this one which is why we are backing an Over 2.75 Goals outcome.
Liverpool vs Wolverhampton Wanderers >> click here for live odds
The Reds returned from their Club World Cup as champions but a tough schedule is waiting for them at home. They meet Leicester away from home on Boxing Day and then they host the Wolves on Sunday. Klopp will have to rotate some of his squad to avoid fatigue and possible injuries. However, a rotated squad could be what their opponents are waiting for in order to steal points from them. They do have a huge lead on the top of the league but you are never sure in the Premier League. Last year, they had a 8 point advantage in January and still City ended up lifting the title.
The Wolves are a team that’s always prepared to take points from the top sides. They have done it many times in the past and they will certainly try again against Liverpool on Sunday. The Wolves kicked Liverpool out of the FA Cup both in 2017 and last year; however, they haven’t been able to take points from them in the Premier League since 2010. Nevertheless, Nuno’s side is much stronger this year compared to past years. They play attractive counter-attack football and can win against any team. If they reduce mistakes in defense, the Wanderers could take some points away from Liverpool.
Quality wise, Liverpool are considered absolute favorites for this fixture. They are also performing on another level which is why they have dropped only 2 points in the Premier League this season. However, we believe things are not going to be so easy against the Wolves. For that reason, we are backing a Both Teams to Score outcome.
Manchester City vs Sheffield United >> click here for live odds
Last but not least, we have to mention the holding champions who seem to have found their form again. After dropping a lot of points in the most unlikely places, the Manchester Blues are once again looking very strong. They scored 3 goals against both Arsenal and Leicester and are now looking for their next victim. Guardiola’s side is hoping that this tight schedule leads to Liverpool dropping some points so maybe they can catch up to them and keep the title race alive. Even though the gap is huge right now, just a few bad results can make the race for the Premier League champions very exciting once again.
The holding champions will have to go through this season’s sensation in their hopes to catch up to Liverpool. The Blades have been fantastic so far in the season as they have secured wins against the strongest teams. They are playing attractive football and leave everything on the pitch. The Blades are especially strong when they are playing at home with their performances away from home being vastly different. However, they have shown that they can surprise stronger teams even without their fans backing them. Sheffield play strong defense and strike on the counter-attack. If they manage to score first, it’s very hard for the other team to return to the match.
Considering the squad quality, City are absolute favorites for this fixture. They are playing at home in a match they have to win because they can’t be dropping any more points. At the end, they will probably take all 3 points; however, we are certain that Sheffield are not going to make this fixture an easy one. This is why we are backing a Home Side Victory & Over 2.5 Goals outcome.
