What is a football moneyline bet?
Moneyline bets in football are determined by the winner of the game including overtime. If the NFL football game ends in a tie, the moneyline bets push and wagers on both teams are refunded to the bettor.
Moneylines are two-sided wagers thus having a FAVORITE and a UNDERDOG. Favorites require you to lay juices (vigorish) and Underdogs pay you on top of your initial bet.
Below is an example of a moneyline bet:
Green Bay Packers +130
New England Patriots -150
In this example, the Green Bay Packers are underdogs with a moneyline of +130. This means if the Green Packers win the game for every $100 bet them you will receive your initital bet ($100) and a profit of $130.
On the other side, you will have to risk $150 to win $100 on the New England Patriots as favorites. IF they win, you will receive your initial risk ($150) and a profit of $100.
What is a football spread bet?
Similar to a moneyline bet, a spread bet or handicap bet is a two sided wager but includes a point spread to even the odds of both teams.
Spread bets are read as following:
Miami Dolphins +3 -110
Chicago Bears -3 -110
In this example, the Miami Dolphins are underdogs by 3 points at -110 odds. For Miami to be the winning selection of the match, they need to win the game outright or loose by less than 3 points. If they loose by exactly 3 points, the wager is deemed a push and a refund is given to the bettor.
As for for the Chicago Bears they are favorites by 3 points and need to win the game by more than 3 points to be the winning wager. If they win by exactly 3 points, the selection will be considered a push and refunded.
The -110 after each of the selections is in reference to the amount of money you need to risk on your bet to win. In this example, you would need to risk $110 to win $100 on either of the selections.
What is a football totals bet?
Similar to the NFL Spread bets above, NFL Totals are OVER / UNDER bets on the total points scored in the football game.
Miami Dolphins over 47 -110
Chicago Bears under 47 -110
In this example, you have the option to bet on the total combined score of both teams to be over 47 or under 47 for the entire game. If the score ends exactly on 47 both the Over 47 and the Under 47 bets are considered a push and are refunded.
The same calculation is done with the -110 odds as points spreads. You would need to risk $110 to win $100 in the NFL Totals bets above.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
