The 23rd La Liga matchweek is in action this weekend and it’s coming right after the quarter finals of the Copa del Rey midweek. Atletico Madrid are playing on Sunday against Granada. They haven’t won a match in 3 rounds and they are really desperate for points. Real Madrid, on the other hand, are playing away from home against Osasuna on Sunday. They will be looking to continue their unbeaten run which has gone up to 13 games in La Liga right now. Last but not least, we have Barcelona who is playing against Betis on Sunday night. The Catalans can’t afford to drop any more points right now. Madrid are already 3 points ahead and with the Cup gone, they have to try and get back on top of the table. However, more about that below in our La Liga predictions.

It seems coach Simeone was absolutely right when he said that Atletico are getting back to bad habits. They have lost 2 out of their last 3 matches which includes a loss to Real Madrid last week. To top that off, the team has way too many injuries. As a matter of fact all their 1st pick players in attack were injured for the past couple of games. However, Simeone will have to find a way to pick his team up because they are slowly but surely losing the title race. With 13 points below the table leaders, it’s unlikely that Atletico can back into it. However, they have to do their best to finish in the TOP 4. Facing Granada at this stage won’t be easy but Atletico have to take advantage of their home turf and finally get back to winning ways.
The visitors were the surprise of La Liga this season as most experts had them relegated even before the season started. However, they managed to stay among the TOP 4 for the 1st half of the season. Nevertheless, they lost their footing in the last couple of rounds which is why they dropped all the way down to 10th. There is still a lot of games to be played in La Liga and Granada have to keep their cool or they risk dropping even further. They are going to be part of the semi-finals in the Copa del Rey which is fantastic but they also need to get back to winning ways in La Liga. Facing Atletico Madrid won’t be easy but they did manage to hold them to a draw the first time they played against them this season.
Quality wise, Atletico Madrid are favorites to win this fixture. Additionally, they have home turf advantage. However, the way they have been playing at the moment suggests that Granada could surprise them and get a draw or perhaps even a win. For that reason, we are backing Both Teams to Score.
Osasuna vs Real Madrid >> click here for live odds
The hosts have been doing better than expected in La Liga this season. Most people had them relegation bound but Osasuna are holding their own right at the middle of the table. As a matter of fact, they are just 6 points away from the TOP 6. They have been very good at home especially when it comes to defense. That will be their main weapon when they face Real Madrid on Sunday. Osasuna haven’t defeated Madrid since 2011 which doesn’t bode well for them. They will have to reduce their defensive mistakes to a minimum if they hope for a positive result against Madrid on Sunday.
Zidane won’t be happy with his squad after they bowed out of the Copa del Rey midweek. Just a few days ago he promised Madrid fans that they will do better in the Cup as they haven’t won it in ages. However, Real Sociedad were better than them on Thursday and kicked them out of the tournament. Nevertheless, Madrid need to put that behind them because they have a La Liga fixture on Sunday. With just 3 points ahead of Barcelona on the table, Madrid can’t afford to drop any points. Osasuna has been a team that they have always beaten in all the recent seasons.
The last time they lost this fixture was back in 2011 and since then Osasuna have managed just 1 draw against them. The reverse fixture this year finished with a 2:0 victory for Reall Madrid. Playing Osasuna away from home will be harder but Madrid should have enough about them to win on Sunday.
Real Madrid are considered absolute favorites for this match even though they are playing away from home. Madrid have been on a 13 games run without a loss in La Liga. They aim to keep it that way by defeating Osasuna on Sunday. However, they do have a lot of injuries and Zidane will have to rotate his squad. That should give Osasuna enough of a space to score at least 1 goal. For that reason, we are backing an Away Side Victory & Over 2.5 Goals.
Real Betis vs Barcelona >> click here for live odds
The hosts are not having the season they expected as they are sitting in the lower part of the table. They have just 1 win in the last 5 rounds and to make things worse now they have to play Barcelona. In the reverse fixture, Barcelona scored 5 past them which is why Betis will have to improve defensively. Back in 2018, they managed to defeat Barcelona 3:4 but that was their only positive result against them in years. We have to go all the way back to 2008 to find a win for Betis against Barcelona in La Liga. Additionally, they will facing their old coach, the person who basically made this Betis team. Setien was behind all the biggest accomplishments for Betis in the last couple of seasons. Barcelona are wounded at the moment so Betis could try and use that to their favor.
The Catalans succumbed to yet another defeat. This time it was in the Copa del Rey as Bilbao scored in the last seconds of the match to kick them out of the competition. It’s a massive disappointment for Barcelona fans because winning the Cup is one of the club’s priorities. However, they need to bounce back from that loss as soon as possible. Madrid is already leading the table by 3 points so the Catalans can’t drop any points at this stage of the season. In the reverse fixture, Barcelona won 5:2 but this time they are playing away from home. During the past couple of seasons Barcelona have had very bad performances away from home. It’s like they are a different team when they are playing away from Camp Nou. Nevertheless, they should have enough squad quality to take all 3 points against Betis on Sunday.
Quality wise, Barcelona are considered favorites against Betis. However, their performances away from home have been horrible this year. That’s why the odds for their victory are much higher than usual. Nevertheless, Barcelona can’t afford to drop more points so they will do their best to win on Sunday. For that reason, we are backing an Away Side Victory.
