Champions League Predictions – Tuesday

Welcome to our Champions League predictions for the last round of the group stage. Tuesday will have 3 fantastic matches that could decide the final teams to feature in the last 16 phase. Inter are hosting Barcelona in a match they have to win in order to go through to the next phase. Ajax play against Valencia where they need at least a point to guarantee themselves qualification. However, the most important match is the one between Salzburg and Liverpool. The Red Bull side could kick the holding Champions out of the competition. Liverpool mustn’t lose the fixture if they hope to defend their European throne. Dropping out of the competition in the group stage would be a shock for the whole footballing world. Nevertheless, more about that below, in our Champions League predictions.

This is the most exciting fixture of the last round of the group stage. All eyes will be on this match because it could see the Champions bow out of the tournament even before the last 16 phase. Salzburg have been a problem for all the teams in the group. Even in matches they lost, Salzburg scored several goals and we always close to a positive result. In the reverse fixture Liverpool defeated them 4:3 only on the merits of individual quality. This time around, Salzburg are playing at home and they could really put on a fantastic performance. Their star player Halland has scored 8 goals so far and he might just become Liverpool’s bane.

The Reds, on the other hand, are enjoying a fantastic run of positive results in all competitions. Even though they started this year’s Champions League with a defeat, Liverpool found their way to the top of the table. However, their progress is not certain as they mustn’t lose against Salzburg. In the reverse fixture, they were leading 3:0 in the 1st half and by the 60th minute in the 2nd half, the match was 3:3. Liverpool can’t allow something like that to happen away from home. They need a great performance, similar to the ones they are giving in the Champions League. The Reds do have a lot of matches in these rounds

Regardless of the situation, Liverpool are the favorites in this fixture. It’s unthinkable to believe that Klopp will allow for Liverpool to lose their place in the last 16 phase. However, with the way Salzburg have been playing, anything can happen. For that reason, we are backing an Over 3.5 Goals outcome.

Ajax vs Valencia >> click here for live odds

The Dutch side is playing some fantastic football this season. That’s how they got to the top of the table in their CL group. However, their qualification is not yet certain. They need at least a draw against Valencia to guarantee themselves a spot in the last 16 phase. Losing to the Spanish side might be disastrous to Ajax because if Chelsea win in their match, they would be out of the competition. The reverse fixture finished with a 0:3 victory for Ajax even though they were playing away from home. With their fans supporting them, the hosts shouldn’t have a problem to win or draw the match against Valencia on Tuesday.

On the other hand, the squad that lost 3:0 to Ajax in the first round had tons of internal problems. Valencia have been on the rise in the last couple of weeks which is shown by their performances in all competitions. They fought Chelsea off to a draw even though Valencia missed a penalty. That point gave them a shot at the last 16 phase but they will need to defeat the Dutch side. It’s going to be very hard since they will play in front of Ajax’s fans; however, anything can happen in a CL match. This has already been proven several times this season.

Ajax are favorites here as they only need a point. However, a defensive approach is not something they excel at. It was proven in the 1st match against Chelsea where they wanted to get a draw at home and ended up conceding in the dying minutes of the match and losing. For that reason, Ajax will go for a victory. We are backing a Home Side Victory outcome.

Inter vs Barcelona >> click here for live odds

Last but not least, Tuesday will bring us a match of huge importance for the Italian side. They have to defeat Barcelona in order to progress to the last 16 phase. It’s either that or praying that Dortmund won’t win against Slavia which is highly unlikely. Inter squandered a 2:0 lead over Dortmund two rounds ago as the match ultimately finished 2:3 in favor of the German side. Conte now has to defeat one of the strongest teams in the competition. They have a lot of injuries which could be a problem; however, Barcelona will be traveling with a mixed squad. Several 1st team players won’t feature, including talisman Lionel Messi. So, if Inter can’t get a positive result against a rotated squad, then they don’t really deserve to go to the last 16 phase.

The Catalans, on the other hand, are traveling to Italy with no pressure at all. Their fantastic performance against Dortmund in the previous round saw them win the group. No matter what happens against Inter, Barcelona will be 1st in the group. That’s exactly why they are traveling with a rotated squad and giving 1st team players their much needed rest. The Catalans have 2 huge fixtures in La Liga coming up and several players definitely need to be rested for them. However, they are not going to roll over and let Inter win without a fight. The Catalans have never been a team that just gives results to other teams. Inter will have to earn a victory or find themselves out of the competition.

Inter are considered favorites for this fixture because they are playing at home and because Barcelona are going to field a rotated squad. However, many believe that’s not enough to win against the Catalans. For that reason, we are backing a Both Teams to Score outcome.
